Adult/Teen Division

Nancy Gallenson
Adult/Teen Division Director

Nancy Gallenson received her initial ballet training from the late Leona Norman and was an original  member of the Marin Civic Ballet. There she danced lead roles in Marin's major productions. She won the Marin Music Chest's first Ballet Scholarship and applied it towards study as a dance major at the University of Utah. She spent a summer dancing with the Central City Opera Company before joining Ballet West under the direction of Willam Christensen. She performed works by Ballanchine, Jacques d'Amboise, Willam and Lou Christensen, and Tom Rudd. As a Demi-Soloist with the company she toured the United States and Europe.

She returned to the San Francisco Area to dance with the San Francisco Opera under the direction of the late Norbert Vesak and Michael Smuin. Ms. Gallenson began her teaching career with Marin Ballet in 1972 working with both adults and company members. She left Marin to open her own school and developed one of the most successful adult dance training programs in the United States. She was voted one of the outstanding young women of America and produced and choreographed sold out performances at her own school for over ten years. She returned to Marin Ballet to head up the nationally accredited Adult/Teen division including Dominican College students. She now brings this outstanding program to Marin Dance Theatre
